Your Path to Success: Next Steps
Connect with a leading agency

In New Zealand, a salesperson must be properly supervised by a licensed agent or branch manager. We recommend reaching out to us early in your study process to discuss potential mentorship and future placement.

Gain your qualification

Before applying for a license, you must complete the New Zealand Certificate in Real Estate (Salesperson) (Level 4). This 50-credit qualification covers the legal framework, marketing, and sale and purchase agreements required to practice safely.

  • Provider options: REINZ, Open Polytechnic, Skills Institute, Strategi Institute.
  • Timeframe: Usually takes 4 to 6 months part-time.
Apply for your REA License

Once qualified, you must apply for a Salesperson’s License through the Real Estate Authority (REA).

  • Fit and Proper Check: This includes a criminal history check and referee testimonials.
  • Application Approval: Your application is advertised on the REA website for 14 days, during this time anyone can object your application.
Launch your career

After your license is granted, you can begin listing and selling property. At Ray White Whanganui, we provide ongoing training to ensure you’re always “more valuable” to your clients.
